Next Step Course In The Use of The Handgun
A one day class in the use of the handgun. This class
is primarily for those who have some familiarity with their handgun and who practice safe
gun handling.
This class will serve as a good introduction to any of the national firearm training academies. (If you are new to
handguns we recommend you first attend the Basic Handgun Safety & Marksmanship Class.)
The class is divided into two parts: classroom lecture and shooting practice.
Lecture topics include a basic safety review, firearm and ammunition selection,
targeting considerations, cover and concealment, tactics, flashlight techniques and an introduction to security hardware and planning.
Although we are not attorneys, some discussion of the legal considerations of
firearm's use
will be covered.
The range portion will include instruction in basic shooting positions: standing,
kneeling, sitting and prone. Techniques will concentrate on short range shooting (less
than 10 yards) combining speed and accuracy.
We will practice various drills and will end the day with a chance to solve a tactical problem.
EQUIPMENT: Handgun, at least one extra magazine or speedloader, 150 rounds of ammunition.
Wear old comfortable clothing. No holster is necessary for this course.
Hearing and eye protection are required. (We have a few handguns that we loan for
this
class but we recommend you bring your own handgun. If you use our handguns you
must purchase and use our ammunition!)
The classroom begins at 9:00 A.M. sharp and continues until about noon. The range portion
is from 1:15 P.M. until about 5 P.M. We recommend you bring a lunch. There are no
nearby restaurants, however, the Club does have vending machines.
2008 Class Dates: March 22,
June 28, September 27, December 27
ADVANCE REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED. Cost: $60.00.
